Dennise Gackstetter has been studying and practicing yoga since 1984. She completed her first teacher training in 2000 at the Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, North Carolina. She began teaching yoga at the Penland School of Arts and Crafts. Later that year, she moved to Logan, Utah where she established yoga classes at a number of venues, including Utah State University. Dennise received her 200 hour certification from the International Yoga Alliance in 2002. She is currently enrolled in The Faraway Program through Yoga Mendocino in Ukiah, California working on extensive teacher training, as well as the 500 hour level certification from the Yoga Alliance. Practicing and teaching primarily in the Iyengar tradition, Dennise also enjoys gaining new perspectives from many different yoga teachers and styles. Teachers she has studied with include Judith Lasater, Rodney Yee, Stephanie Keach, and JJ Gormley. She continues to deepen her understanding and practice of vipassana meditation. For this reason she considers Charlotte Bell and Mary Pafford to be her two most important mentors. Both of these teachers sustain their own meditation practice. This work is transforming her spiritual understanding of yoga and life. Maintaining respect for the deep roots of the yoga, she approaches teaching creatively, with joy and a light heart. Blending alignment principles with focused inner awareness, she helps to guide students to the discovery of their unique expression of each asana. She encourages students to listen to their own inner voice, coming to know and trust themselves. She hopes she helps students take yoga beyond the mat into the small moments of their daily lives. In addition to teaching yoga, Dennise is a ceramic artist, and part time faculty for the Art Department at Utah State University.
